Bhubaneswar, February 15: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Sunday, underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the importance of skills over formal degrees, drawing attention to the Union Budget 2026-27, which highlights the government's commitment to youth empowerment, manufacturing, the emerging economy, and MSMEs.

In a media interaction in Sambalpur, Pradhan remarked, "The Prime Minister has consistently stated that skills hold more value than degrees for the youth... This year’s budget reflects a clear focus on youth, manufacturing, new-age economy, and MSMEs."

He also pointed to the growing role of industry in skill development. "The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), one of India’s largest business organizations, has inaugurated the first skill development center in Sambalpur. CII plans to establish more such centers here. This initiative will ensure that the youth of Sambalpur’s skills are recognized," he added.

Pradhan emphasized that the creation of these centers would pave the way for attracting major companies to the region, thereby enhancing employment opportunities for the local youth. Expressing gratitude to PM Modi for his forward-thinking policies, as well as to CII and other collaborators, Pradhan noted, "The youth of Sambalpur will now have the opportunity to explore international training options in Japan, Denmark, and Delhi. A substantial plan has been laid out today."

In another significant development, Pradhan, along with Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, flagged off the Hirakud International Half Marathon in Sambalpur. Organized by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in partnership with the Sambalpur District Administration under the Fit India campaign, the marathon saw participation from around 15,000 runners, including elite athletes and amateurs from across India and abroad.

The event offered multiple race categories to encourage participation from a wide range of individuals: a 21 km half-marathon, a 10 km competitive run, a 5 km race, and a 1.5 km fun run for families and children. The marathon, set against the scenic backdrop of the Hirakud Dam — the largest earthen dam in Asia — provided a perfect setting for both seasoned athletes and local fitness enthusiasts alike.Bottom of Form
