Wayanad, Aug 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-stricken areas in northern Kerala, where landslides have tragically claimed over 200 lives, on Saturday
The survey covered the landslide-devastated hamlets of Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom. Modi flew aboard an Indian Air Force helicopter, departing from Kannur Airport to Wayanad at around 11:15 a.m.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi.
Following the aerial survey, Modi is scheduled to land at SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta. From there, he will travel by road to visit specific areas affected by the landslides.
The Prime Minister's visit comes in the wake of the Kerala government’s appeal for Rs 2,000 crore in aid for rehabilitation and relief efforts in the disaster-hit region. The landslides, which struck on July 30, have resulted in the deaths of at least 226 people, with many others still missing.
