Bhubaneswar, June 30: Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in many parts of Odisha till July 5, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per the Met Department, a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Under its influence, several places in Odisha are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.

In view of this, the IMD has issued a Red Warning for extremely heavy rainfall today in four districts—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore.

In addition, Orange Warnings have been issued for seven districts, while 15 districts have received Yellow Warnings, indicating varying levels of rainfall intensity and potential disruptions.

For July 1, the IMD has issued Orange Warnings for four districts—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda—where heavy rainfall is expected. People in these areas are advised to be prepared for possible water-logging, transportation delays, power outages, and a higher risk of landslides in hilly areas.

Meanwhile, 14 other districts—Bargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur—have been given a Yellow Warning because of the chance of heavy rainfall in some areas. People, especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas, are advised to stay alert.

The state's Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked all district Collectors to stay alert, make sure control rooms are working, and have emergency response teams ready. Fishermen have been warned not to go into the sea because of rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal.

The Odisha government has also instructed disaster response teams, like ODRAF and fire services, to be ready for any emergency rescue or relief work in at-risk districts.

As the monsoon strengthens, residents are advised to keep an eye on weather updates, follow official warnings, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.
