Mumbai, January 29: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has ramped up its investigation into the plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar. Preliminary findings suggest poor visibility and the lack of advanced navigational aids at Baramati airstrip as key factors.

The crash also resulted in the deaths of four others, including two pilots, a personal security officer, and a flight attendant. Ajit Pawar, who leaves behind a strong political legacy in Maharashtra, is survived by his wife and two sons.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has formed a three-member investigation team, including experts from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the AAIB, to examine the wreckage of the Learjet 45. The aircraft's Black Box, containing critical flight data, has been recovered for further analysis.

The AAIB probe focuses on visibility conditions, pilot decision-making, and the operational limitations at the airstrip. Investigators are reviewing the aircraft’s maintenance records, crew certifications, and other key documents. The investigation follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Maharashtra bid a final farewell to the 66-year-old leader with full state honours at Vidya Pratishthan ground, as thousands of supporters paid tribute. Political leaders from across India also gathered to honor his decades-long contribution to the state
