Khordha, July 12: After five days of intense search operations, the decomposed body of Om Prakash Rath was found floating in a water-filled stone quarry in Tapang near Jatni, Khordha district, on Friday.
Om Prakash, a native of Ranapur in Nayagarh district, drowned while attempting to save his friend from drowning. The incident occurred as the friends were shooting reels at the abandoned quarry, which had been closed for several years.
Upon hearing the news, the district administration immediately initiated a search operation, deploying the ODRAF team. Teams from INS Chilika and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also called in to assist. Additionally, a start-up from NIT employed a robot and sonar system to locate the youth. Despite these efforts, the body was not found until Friday morning, when the rescue team discovered it floating.
Om Prakash was pursuing a physiotherapy course at the Abhinav Bindra Sports Medicine and Research Institute (ABSMARI) near Pahal, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
