Burla, Feb 9: In a recent crackdown on dangerous driving, the Sambalpur Police detained seven youths and seized two vehicles for allegedly performing reckless stunts on a public road near Hirakud Dam in Odisha. The incident, which drew significant attention, was captured in videos that went viral on social media, prompting police action.

According to sources, the youths were seen performing dangerous stunts on South Dyke Road near the dam. The viral footage showed the youths engaging in risky behavior while driving, including sitting atop the vehicles, smoking cigarettes, and posing for camera shots as the cars swerved unpredictably. The stunts, which appeared to be filmed in a "movie-style" fashion, caused significant disruption to traffic and endangered the safety of commuters and residents in the area.

Following the circulation of these videos, Burla police initiated an investigation, identified the vehicles involved, and detained the individuals responsible for the reckless driving. The police registered a case under Sections 281/285/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 184/201 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which pertain to dangerous driving, endangering life, and other related offences.

The vehicles involved in the stunts have been seized and are currently in police custody. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate other individuals who may have been involved in the dangerous activities.

In light of the incident, officials have issued a strong warning against rash and negligent driving, urging citizens to report any such behavior promptly. Police have made it clear that they will take strict action against anyone found putting public safety at risk through reckless driving or similar stunts.
