Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: The transgender community in Odisha has raised objections against the alleged derogatory dialogues, played in the Odia Jatra, that tarnish the dignity of the third genders.

Acting on it, transgender activist Meera Parida condemned the Jatra actors who played opera mocking the transgenders with spelling out some objectionable dialogues during the Khandagiri Yatra shows.

Parida vehemently demanded omission of the very dialogues from the script with due apology by the concerned artist who allegedly spread hatred against the trans-community.

According to report, a controversy emerged over the alleged use of some objectionable words referring to the transgender community in the play titled ‘Janwar’.

While the play was scheduled to be staged at the Khandagiri Jatra in Odisha's Bhubaneswar on Thursday Transgenders’ rights activist Meera Parida who is also a Member of the National Council for Transgender Persons objected to some dialogues delivered by actor Kahna, who lands as a villain in the social-drama.

Parida raised objections to the dialogues and sought corrective action from the organizers before the show is recreated in the Khandagiri Mela.

According to the allegations, a particular scene in the play contains words considered offensive towards transgender persons. The issue came to the fore after Meera.

Parida, while interacting with the pressers said, using abusive language and bitter words relating to any community is not a play. Thus, it’s not at all fair and acceptable in the society. She also warned of preventing the show and resisting the concerned artist to enter onto the stage, if the same dialogues are replayed there.
