Mumbai, Aug 1: Defer mega auction by one year. Let there be a smaller auction and more retentions for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Majority of the IPL franchise owners reportedly had this suggestion before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during their much-awaited meeting, here on Wednesday. The meeting continued for more than two hours.
The other issues that were deliberated included the number of players that can be retained by a franchise. The number of right-to-match cards available to each franchise, the number of future of uncapped players, raising the auction purse upper limit above Rs 100 crore, marquee players, Impact Player rule were some of the other issues that were also discussed, sources added.
The opinion of the IPL franchise owners would be considered by the BCCI and there may be another meeting, sources revealed.
Except Mumbai Indians, other franchises had their owners in attendance. But MI joined the meeting virtually.
