Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: Ahead of the general and state assembly elections, the Congress on Tuesday appointed Meenakshi Bahinipati, wife of Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, as president of Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress. She will replace Bandita Parida.
In a press release, AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal said Congress president Mallickarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for the appointment of Meenakshi Bahinipati as the president of Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress.
It is pertinent to mention that in June 2023, Meenakshi Bahinipati was removed from the post of the president of the Koraput District Congress Coomittee.
Reacting to it, 12 zilla parishad members, block Congress presidents and the chairperson of Jeypore Municipality met state Congress president Sarat Pattanayak in Bhubaneswar, opposing any move to replace Meenakshi Bahinipati, stating that it could harm the party’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
