Sambalpur, Sept 25: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kandhamal district administration for promoting improved turmeric cultivation and enhancing the livelihood opportunities of farmers of the district.
With a total outlay of approximately Rs 1 crore, the CSR initiative aims to support farmers through the distribution of improved Salem variety turmeric rhizomes, complemented by training and technical guidance on scientific and improved cultivation practices.
The initiative is designed to enhance crop productivity, improve farm incomes and promote sustainable agricultural practices, thereby strengthening turmeric-based livelihoods in the region. By providing quality planting material along with technical know-how, the project will help farmers adopt improved cultivation methods and enhance the overall value of turmeric farming.
The initiative is expected to contribute towards sustainable livelihood development and economic empowerment of farming communities in Kandhamal, an aspirational district of Odisha.
MCL has so far approved CSR projects worth more than Rs. 21.57 crore in Kandhamal, reaffirming its commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable development in the district.
