Nabarangpur, April 29: Acting tough against the violation of Model Code of Conduct guidelines, the Nabarangpur District Collector-cum-District Election Officer on Monday suspended two school principals of the district.
The suspended principals identified as Manoj Kumar Bhatra, the acting Headmaster of Pujariguda primary school in Dabugo block and Gautam Charan Sahu, the acting headmaster of Patarriguda Govt High School were allegedly suspended and have been posted at the Dabugo Block Education Office.
According to the report, on April 26, the teachers were present at the public meeting on 5T and Naveen Odisha Chairman VK Pandian. However, following their presence, BJP lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Election Officer of Odisha. In response, the CEO instructed the District Collector to conduct an investigation and undertake appropriate measures."
Nabarangpur District Collector-cum-District Election Officer Kamal Lochan Mishra said, “Representatives of a political party have lodged a complaint against the teachers for taking part in a political party meeting. They have also provided the photos and videos as evidence. After investigation, they have been put under suspension”.
Worth mentioning, at least three school teachers and a Junior Clerk in Odisha’s Boudh district were earlier suspended and transferred for their participation in election rallies ahead of the General elections.
In accordance with the directive issued by the Election Commission of India on March 15, 2024, and the Odisha Government Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1959, government employees are prohibited from being affiliated with political or communal parties or organizations engaged in political or communal activities. Additionally, they are prohibited from participating in, supporting, or contributing to any political or communal movement or activity.
