Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: As a severe cold wave continues to affect large parts of Odisha, particularly the southern and western regions, normal life has been disrupted with people reeling under intense cold conditions. In view of the worsening weather, the state administration has gone on alert, and the Ganjam district administration has announced a change in school timings.
According to an order issued by the office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Ganjam, early morning classes in government and government-aided schools will no longer be held on Saturdays. Instead, classes will now be conducted from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, effective from this week. The decision has been communicated through official letter number 25830.
The move comes amid reports from the Meteorological Department indicating a rise in cold conditions across the district. Considering the health and safety of students, DEO Ajay Kumar Patra directed the implementation of the revised schedule to ensure regular attendance and uninterrupted academic activities.
Officials said the revised timing will remain in force until further notice. The decision has been welcomed by parents and school authorities as a necessary step to protect students from the harsh winter conditions.
