Night chills likely to return in state after four days

Winter conditions are set to fluctuate across the state as the latestOdisha weather forecastindicates a mix of dry spells, foggy mornings, and a pending drop in mercury levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted that dry weather will very likely prevail over all districts for the next seven days, offering some respite from immediate rains.

However, residents should not put away their winter gear just yet. While the minimum temperature (night temperature) is expected to see no large change during the next four days, a noticeable shift is on the horizon. Meteorologists forecast that the night temperature will fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the subsequent three days across various districts of Odisha, bringing back a distinct winter chill.

Fog Alert for Coastal and Interior Districts

Visibility may be a concern for early morning commuters in specific regions. The weather department has issued a forecast for shallow to moderate fog at isolated pockets over the next five days.

  • Day 1 & 2 (Valid up to Feb 5):Fog is likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Khordha, and Sundergarh.
  • Day 3 (Feb 5-6):Similar conditions will persist in the coastal belts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore, though Sundergarh is excluded from this list.
  • Day 4 & 5 (Feb 6-8):The fog warning continues for key districts like Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Cuttack.

Current Temperature Observations

Data from February 3 highlights significant contrasts in the state's weather.Phulbanirecorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 11.2°C, while the hill station ofG. Udayagiriremained the coldest spot overall at 8.2°C. On the other end of the spectrum, Jharsuguda sizzled with the highest maximum temperature of 32.6°C.

For residents in the Twin Cities, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 30.8°C and a minimum of 15.5°C, while Cuttack saw slightly cooler night temperatures at 14.4°C.
