Narayanpur, Jan 19: Security forces in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, successfully thwarted a major Maoist infiltration attempt by recovering a large cache of materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), officials confirmed on Sunday. A joint operation by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and district police led to the discovery of explosives and weapons-related items in two separate search operations.

According to officials, the Maoists were planning to use these materials for launching attacks against security forces. However, timely intervention by the forces prevented a potentially deadly assault.

The first operation took place in the Orchha area of Narayanpur. Acting on reliable intelligence, the 29th Battalion of ITBP, alongside Narayanpur police, carried out an extensive search across the forests of Orchha, Raynar, and Dhanora. The search led to the recovery of several items hidden by the Maoists near Bhatbeda and Asnar. Among the seized materials were seven batteries, a Motorola communication set, a multimeter, a circuit board, jute bombs, and electrical wires key components for assembling IEDs. Authorities suspect that these items were intended for use in explosive attacks against security forces.

The second operation took place in the dense forests of Adingpar and Kumeradi, where a joint team of the 53rd Battalion of ITBP and DRG uncovered a significant cache of explosives. A total of 82 BGL cells, which can be used in large-scale attacks, were recovered. This discovery is being hailed as a major success, as it prevented potential ambushes and roadside explosive attacks targeting security personnel.

Police officials confirmed that the recovered explosives and equipment were clearly meant to harm security forces, and their recovery has dealt a significant blow to the Maoists' immediate plans. The operations not only thwarted the Maoists' current objectives but also disrupted their ability to regroup and launch attacks in the near future.

In the wake of these successful operations, security measures in Narayanpur district have been further strengthened. Intensive search operations continue in the region's forests to ensure no additional explosives or Maoist hideouts remain undetected. Authorities are maintaining heightened surveillance to prevent any resurgence of Maoist activity in the area.
