Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: A man reportedly set himself on fire in Balipatna area of Odisha’s Khurda district today.
Jyoti Ranjan Mathia, who reportedly set himself on fire today, sustained over 80% burn injuries and has been hospitalized.
The self-immolation attempt is believed to be the result of a family dispute over property.
According to reports, after the death of Jyoti Ranjan's mother, his father, Surendra Mathia, remarried.
Reports indicate that Surendra transferred all his land to his second wife, ignoring his son's claim. Jyoti Ranjan had been asking his father for his share of the property, but his pleas were ignored. Frustrated by the situation, he reportedly poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire inside their house.
Locals rushed Jyoti Ranjan to a nearby hospital, and he was later transferred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
This incident follows a series of similar tragic events in Odisha.
