Bhubaneswar, October 16: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday claimed victory in eight of Odisha’s 13 state universities in student union elections held after an eight-year hiatus.
Reacting to the results, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the outcome reflected the faith of Gen Z in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), the student wing of the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD), claimed that its candidates had secured between 55 and 60 per cent of the seats in the elections.
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, also reported significant gains. The organisation claimed that its candidates had won the president’s post in 30 colleges and finished runners-up in another 80 institutions.
