Bhadrak, June 6: In an unprecedented incident, a man killed his spouse in Odisha’s Bhadrak on Saturday while the latter was standing on the queue to cast her vote before the polling station.
The incident took place at the Muktadihi village under the Bhadrak Rural Police limit in the afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmirekha Rout and the accused is Prabhakar, who is now in police custody.
Sources said that Rashmirekha was residing in her paternal house due to marital discord with her husband Prabhakar. Today, Rashmirekha had been to the Booth No 4 at the Muktadihi village to cast her vote. Meanwhile, Prabhakar reached the spot and called his wife to a few meters away from the queue, wherein she was waiting for her turn. Following some oral duel between them, Prabhakar slit his wife’s throat with a sharp weapon where she succumbed to her injuries.
On being aware of the incident, police detained Prabhakar.
A case was registered in this connection. Further investigation is underway, said the police.
