Bargarh, Aug 28: In a gruesome incident, a man was brutally murdered at a petrol pump in Sohela area of Odisha’s Bargarh district reportedly over a three-year-old enmity on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Balistha Pradhan and the incident has been reported from Haldipali village under Sohela police limits in the district.
As per reports, Balistha was seated on a plastic chair inside the petrol pump premises, using his mobile phone, when he was unexpectedly attacked by Lipu Sahu, a youth from Garbhana village. The accused repeatedly struck Balistha with an axe, delivering up to 16 blows, before fleeing the scene.
Balistha sustained grave injuries in the attack and died on the spot. The entire incident has been captured by the CCTV installed at the petrol pump.
Following the incident, angry locals staged a road blockade at the site, demanding justice for the attack.
Upon getting the information, Sohela police arrived at the scene and pacified the protesters. The cops also seized the deceased’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
Police have also detained the accused for questioning in connection with the gruesome killing.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
