Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: Odisha has recorded a substantial rise in tourist footfall, welcoming 1,13,83,556 visitors in 2024–25, an increase from 1,00,14,175 tourists in 2023–24, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida informed the Assembly.

Responding to a question from MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo, Parida credited the surge to the state government’s continuous efforts to boost tourism.

The number of foreign visitors grew from 37,267 in 2022–23 to 56,547 in 2024–25, while domestic tourist arrivals increased from 85,87,087 to 1,13,27,009 during the same period.

Parida reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector, noting that Odisha continues to rank among India’s leading travel destinations.

She said the state is focusing on improving infrastructure at major tourist sites and ensuring essential amenities for visitors.

To enhance the state’s appeal, the government is hosting various events, including major festivals, the International Sand Art Festival, and several cultural programmes. Promotional campaigns are being run across multiple media platforms, and Odisha’s presence in national and international travel fairs is helping highlight its tourism potential.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that the administration is also implementing the Odisha Tourism Policy 2022 to attract greater investment in the sector. As part of these efforts, eco-retreat hubs are being developed at picturesque locations such as Ramchandi, Bhitarkanika, Daringbadi, Satkosia, Hirakud, Putsil, and Sonapur to cater to diverse traveler preferences.
