Sambalpur, Sep 12: In a bizarre incident, a 69-year-old man fell into Mahanadi river in Odisha’s Sambalpur district while clicking a selfie. However, firefighters rescued him and later he was sent to Sambalpur Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The person has been identified as Sundar Mohan Mishra.
According to the information, Sundar lost his balance and fell into the river while clicking a selfie from Chanborpur Bridge. However, some people while crossing the bridge noticed the incident and informed police immediately.
Earlier it was reported that an unidentified person suddenly jumped into the river from the bridge while speaking over the phone.
However, after being rescued, Mishra said, “It was an accident. As I am suffering from several ailments, I lost my balance while taking a selfie and fell into the river”.
Worth mentioning, the craze for clicking selfies has often landed many in trouble, at times even causing death. In February this year, a 14-year-old boy died of electrocution while clicking selfies atop a goods train in Odisha’s Raygada district. Similarly, a youth had drowned to death in the Mahanadi river while taking a selfie on Gadgadia ghat in Cuttack in August.
