Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: While a Jail Superintendent in Bhubaneswar has landed in soup, for compensating an woman inmate with cash for her lost jewellery during lockup, a lady Jailer was suspended on Thursday.

The Jailer-cum-Superintendent of Kantabanji Sub-jail Santoshini Dash, was put under suspension for gross misconduct and dereliction in official duty.

The decision comes after a controversy in the Jharpada Special Jail, that became the talk of the town.

Dash was earlier transferred from Choudwar Jail to Kantabanji Sub-Jail after two dreaded inmates from Bihar managed to escape from the Jail. However, Santoshini Dash cited health-related reasons and remained on leave.

Based on reports, DGP Odisha Prisons Susanta Kumar Nath, put the Jailer under suspension.

The Departmental Order(DO) read, Jailer-cum-Superintendent of Sub-jail Kantabanji, Santoshini Dash is contemplated for dereliction of duty and grave misconduct which comes under the rule 12 of the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962. Thus, she is put under suspension and asked not to leave the headquarters without due permission.
