Balugaon, Dec 9: A 12-foot-long python was rescued on Monday after becoming tangled in fishing net during routine fishing activities at Chilika Lake, near Lambodharpur village, close to Balugaon. The snake, estimated to weigh between 40 and 50 kilograms, was discovered by local fishermen in the early hours of the morning.

Startled by the unusual catch, the fishermen quickly alerted authorities. The python remained stuck in the net until officials arrived at the scene.

A rescue team from the Chilika Wildlife Division, led by Wildlife Ranger Rashmita Jena, immediately responded to the incident. The team carefully extricated the snake from the net, ensuring no harm came to the animal.

According to officials, the python was in stable condition following the rescue.

After the successful operation, the python was transported to the nearby Kali Jugeswar hills and released back into its natural habitat. The location was chosen for its suitability as a safe environment, ensuring the snake's well-being and survival in the wild.
