Expanded Commitment and Eradicating Hunger

Marking World Hunger Day on May 28th, the Group launched the next phase of its CSR programs at an event in New Delhi, attended by Dr. Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and G-20 Sherpa. Under its "Hunger Free World" initiative, Malabar Group has pledged to distribute 70,000 nutrient-rich meals daily across India and Zambia, aiming for a total of 2.5 crore meals in the 2025-26 period. This represents a dramatic increase, matching in a single year the 2.5 crore meals cumulatively served over the past three years. Sixty percent of the annual CSR budget is dedicated to initiatives focused on eradicating hunger and poverty, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger. Currently, the program provides over 60,000 daily meals through 167 centers in India and 10,000 daily meals to students in Zambia via state-of-the-art kitchens.

Call for Collective Impact

M.P. Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, emphasized that CSR is an integral part of the company's culture. "While we are doing our utmost, a greater impact can be achieved if more organisations join this mission," he stated, highlighting the global challenge of acute hunger. He also stressed the need for concerted efforts to boost production and create economic growth for sustainable change alongside direct food distribution.

Comprehensive Social Welfare

Beyond hunger alleviation, Malabar Group continues its extensive work in other social welfare domains. In education, in collaboration with Thanal Daya Rehabilitation Trust, it has established 716 micro-learning centers providing education and nutrition to over 32,000 street children, with 9,000 already mainstreamed into formal schooling. Additionally, scholarships have supported 1,14,000 girl students. The "Grandma Homes" initiative provides shelter for destitute women, currently operational in three cities with plans for expansion. In healthcare, the Group is establishing non-profit medical stores in Kerala (27 currently operational) and supporting higher education for landslide-affected children in Wayanad through its "Uyirppu Project." This broad social commitment is funded by Malabar Gold & Diamonds consistently allocating 5% of its profits to social welfare since its inception.

Malabar Group's significantly amplified CSR budget for 2025-26, particularly the major expansion of its "Hunger Free World" initiative, reflects a deepened and long-standing commitment to creating a positive societal impact. By scaling up its diverse programs, the conglomerate aims to address critical social challenges related to food security, education, healthcare, and empowerment for vulnerable communities across India and beyond.
