Koraput theft: 50 tola gold, cash Stolen from uncle and nephew’s houses

Koraput, Aug 18: Panic has gripped the Meghraj area of Koraput town following a major theft in which burglars allegedly broke into two houses belonging to an uncle and his nephew and escaped with several lakhs of rupees worth of gold ornaments and cash in a single night.

The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who claim that thefts have occurred repeatedly in the area. They have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and sought stronger night patrolling to improve security.

According to reports, former railway employee S. Bhaskar Rao had travelled to Visakhapatnam for medical treatment. His nephew, K. Srinu, was also away from the district for work.

Taking advantage of the fact that both houses were locked and unoccupied, unidentified miscreants allegedly broke open the locks and entered the residences.

Around 30 tolas of gold ornaments, along with cash, were reportedly stolen from Bhaskar Rao’s house.

The thieves allegedly targeted Srinu’s residence as well, taking approximately 20 tolas of gold and more than ₹1 lakh in cash.

The scale of the theft has left residents of Meghraj concerned, particularly amid allegations that similar incidents have been reported in the locality in the past.

Local residents have urged police authorities to strengthen night-time patrolling, increase surveillance and take immediate steps to identify and arrest the accused.

Police are expected to investigate the break-in and examine available evidence to trace the perpetrators. Further details regarding the exact value of the stolen property and the progress of the investigation are awaited.
