Major global internet outage hits top websites and apps

New Delhi, Nov 18: A massive global internet outage caused widespread disruption, leaving thousands of users unable to access several major websites and internet applications, including X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI's ChatGPT, and services powered by Cloudflare.

The disruption severely impacted numerous high-profile services globally, including users in India.

Thousands of users were unable to load posts and their main feed on X.

Similalry, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Canva could not be accessed.

The outage is believed to have originated from Cloudflare, a web security firm whose services act as a crucial buffer between websites and end-users, protecting sites from traffic-based attacks. Hundreds of thousands of companies worldwide utilize Cloudflare's software.

Cloudflare acknowledged and investigated the issue, confirming that multiple customers were impacted. In an update provided on its status page, the company stated: "We are seeing services recover, but customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as we continue remediation efforts."
