Cuttack, Jul 22: Police have arrested the main accused in the sensational shooting of Srikant Jena, the husband of the sarpanch of Santarabali Gram Panchayat under Maniabandh in Odisha's Cuttack district.
The incident occurred on June 26, when unidentified assailants opened fire on Srikant Jena in the Bazar area of Maniabandh, firing four rounds at him. The daylight attack sent shockwaves across the district and triggered a massive police investigation.
During the course of the probe, police had earlier arrested two suspects from outside the district. On Tuesday, Maniabandh Police apprehended the alleged mastermind, Ratnakar Sen alias Chandan, from the Phulbani area.
Police also seized the firearm allegedly used in the crime along with the motorcycle used by the accused during the attack.
According to preliminary investigations, the shooting is suspected to have been the result of long-standing personal enmity. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the motive and identify the involvement of any other persons in the case.
