Bhubaneswar, August 17: The Commissionerate police on Thursday busted a magic mirror gang that was allegedly duping people by promising magical powers of the mirror.
Nayapalli police has held three members of the gang including the mastermind and seized a number of false mirrors, which were stocked for sale among moneyed customers.
On the complaint of one Abinash Sukla who hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the police have apprehended Partha Singhre, Malay Sarkar and Sudipta Sinha Roy, from West Bengal.
Police sources said a gang was duping people by selling out some beautifully-designed mirrors in the name of magic mirrors. They were selling them at high prices promising that the mirrors have some mysterious power that makes poor people richer. Apart from it, the mirrors can scan one’s bare image if he stands farther from it while he will be absolutely vanished if comes closer to it.
Being duped by the gang, Abinash Sukla had lodged a complaint with the Nayapalli police wherein he cited that the gang sold out a magic mirror for Rs 9 lakh in advance. However, he found nothing miraculous with the mirror and sought the advance money refunded.
Police initiated an investigation into the matter and arrested three accused in this connection.
Bank agreement worth 50 thousand crores, Rs 28,000 cash and a high-end car were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Further investigation is underway to haunt other accused involved in the fraud and the victims, duped of, said the Investigation Officer(IO).
