Cuttack, Feb 19: In a tragic incident, a woman and her 3-year daughter in Cuttack were charred to death in a massive firecracker explosion.

The deceased have been identified as Sudhanshubala Nayak and her minor daughter.

Another victim, identified as Pravati Nayak is under treatment in the SCB Medical College & Hospital. Her condition is reportedly critical.

The Incident took place at Mahajanpur village under Jagatpur police limits late at night on Monday, as a massive explosion took place at a firecracker store. As a result, three rooms were completely gutted leaving three members critical.

The injured were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for resuscitation. However, two including a minor girl succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

According to reports, one Govinda Nayak had stored some firecrackers at his residence. Meanwhile, the crackers blew off all of a sudden wreaking panic in the locality. Following the powerful explosion, two rooms were completely gutted leaving 3 women members of Govinda’s family critically charred.

Responding to the thundering sound, neighbours rushed the injured ones to the SCB MC & Hospital for treatment.

Police have seized the bodies and preserved them for post-mortem examinations.
