New Delhi, March 6: Both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have issued a 'three-line whip' to their Lok Sabha MPs, directing them to attend the House proceedings from March 9 to 11, during the second phase of the Budget Session. This phase will run until April 2, focusing on essential legislative business.

The first part of the Budget session concluded on February 13, marked by political debates, including discussions on the India-US interim trade deal and former Army Chief MM Naravane's controversial memoir. The session, which began on January 28, comprises 30 sittings over 65 days, with a recess allowing Standing Committees to review Demands for Grants.

Key discussions in the first part included the Budget for 2026-27 and the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address. Opposition parties, including the INDIA bloc, raised concerns over the scrapping of MGNREGA and proposed a new employment guarantee act. In the Lok Sabha, the Finance Minister presented the Union Budget on February 1, marking her ninth consecutive budget.

The session saw disruptions, with eight opposition MPs suspended for misbehavior, and Congress submitted a no-confidence motion against the Speaker. The Rajya Sabha also adjourned on February 13 and will reconvene on March 9.
