Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 20.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman Sea extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Central parts of Bay of Bengal around 20th October,” the agency said.
However, the possible low-pressure is unlikely to play spoilsport in Durga Puja celebrations in Odisha as the weather department stated that it is likely to move westwards towards north Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts and has low probability of further intensification into depression.
The Met department has not yet issued rainfall warning for Odisha.
