Cuttack, Nov 9: The Commissionerate Police will forward Kashmiri youth Samir Mansoor, who has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing a Hindu woman from Jagatsinghpur to court today. Mansoor was arrested by the Mahila Police in Bhubaneswar on Friday while attempting to extort money from the victim.
The victim had previously approached the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to report incidents of love jihad and blackmail. In response, DCP Pinak Mishra formed two teams from the Special Squad to execute a planned operation to trap Mansoor. He was arrested immediately upon reaching Cuttack.
Worth mentioning, Mansoor, who resides in Kashmir, reportedly met the victim, a resident of Jagatsinghpur, through an online gaming platform in 2022. He misled her into a relationship, initially introducing himself as "Samir." When the woman discovered his real last name, she attempted to distance herself from him. However, their relationship persisted, with various meetings in Puri, where Mansoor used intimate photos to blackmail her into marrying him, expressing intentions to take her to Kashmir.
The police did not disclose the age of the victim, who sought ways to escape Mansoor's threats after he sent some objectionable images to her relatives, warning her that he would leak more online.
Approximately a month ago, she contacted a lawyer, who assisted her in filing a police complaint. Based on her allegations at the Mahila police station, authorities registered a case against Mansoor for rape, extortion, and intimidation under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
While the police monitored Mansoor's movements, the victim maintained contact to avoid raising his suspicions. She invited him to Bhubaneswar, where police had set up a trap to apprehend him. He was arrested upon his arrival in the city.
Authorities are currently verifying whether "Samir" is indeed Mansoor's first name in all his legal documents. Investigations are also underway to determine how he obtained the victim's mobile number and sent the objectionable photos to her relatives.
