London, July 12: Hosts England were just too good for visitors West Indies in the first Test at Lord's, here as they registered massive win on Day 3, here on Friday.
Ben Stokes men won the Test by an innings and 114 runs. The win also marked the end of glorious international cricket journey of English pace spearhead James Anderson. The pace bowling legend claimed 4 scalps in his final Test.
Anderson who is nearing his 42nd birthday, has more than 700 Test wickets, which is the highest for any pace bowler.
The star of the English win was debutant fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who grabbed an impressive 12 wickets in his maiden Test appearance.
The dominant hosts England, who earlier scored at more than four runs per over across their first innings to put 371 runs on board, then turned the screw with the ball to take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test match series.
In both innings, the Caribbean batters were far too passive, looking to survive rather than score but ultimately managing neither.
