Puri, Sept 16: Lord Jagannath will be adorned in the Bali Bamana Besha today, following the observance of the Bamana Janma Niti.

Lord Jagannath, the presiding deity, will be dressed in the special Bamana Besha after the afternoon dhupa ritual. He will remain in this attire until the Badasinghara Puja later in the day. On this occasion, the Lord will also adorned with golden ornaments, adding to the grandeur of the event.

Similarly, Lord Balabhadra will be seen in the majestic Raja Besha, while Devi Subhadra will be dressed in general attire.

The Bali Bamana Besha ritual holds deep significance, as it commemorates Lord Vishnu’s fifth incarnation when he subdued King Bali and sent him to the Patala. This ritual has been a part of the tradition at the famous Jagannath temple for centuries, celebrating the divine episode with reverence.

Know the story behind Bamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu:

Bamana avatar is the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  After the gods secured the Amrit during Samudra Manthan, making them invincible, Asura king Mahabali defeated Indra and took control of the universe. Alarmed, the gods sought Vishnu’s help. Vishnu, incarnated as the Brahmin Vamana, visited Bali and asked for as much land as he could cover in three steps. Bali, amused, agreed. Vamana grew rapidly, claiming Earth and the space between Earth and heaven in his first two steps. For his third step, Bali offered his own head. Vamana placed his step there, sending Bali to the Patal Lok and granting him eternal rule over it.
