Lightning strikes claim 10 lives in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: A total of 10 persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in separate incidents of lightning strikes across Odisha on Saturday, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said.

As per reports, four people from Khordha district, two from Balangir district, and one each from Angul, Boudh, Jagatsinghpur and Dhenkanal districts lost their lives in the lightning strikes which took place along with heavy rainfall in several districts of the state yesterday.

Similarly, three persons from Khordha also sustained injuries in the lightning strikes.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. It is likely to further intensify into a low pressure area over the same area during the subsequent 48 hours.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar here has issued rainfall and thunderstorm warning for these districts for today.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Sonepur, predicted the weather department.
