Bhawanipatna, April 5: A tragic lightning strike claimed the life of a woman and left three others injured in Baladiamal village under Junagarh police limits in Kalahandi district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Sanchita Biswal. The injured—Khiradei Pradhan, Sanjukta Lahajal, and Bhumisuta Lahajal—were promptly taken to the Junagarh Community Health Centre. They are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Reports indicate that the group was returning home after working in agricultural fields when they were suddenly struck by lightning. Sanchita died on the spot, while the others sustained injuries.

Following the incident, Junagarh police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, several districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Nayagarh, and Puri experienced severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall, and surface winds reaching up to 50 kmph.
