Bargarh, May 29: In a tragic incident on Tuesday, two women were killed after being struck by lightning in the Atabira area of Bargarh district. The deceased have been identified as Shanti Chhatria of Khairapali village and Jashoda Malik of Toup village.
According to local sources, Shanti Chhatria had ventured into a nearby forest area to collect firewood when the lightning strike occurred. In a separate incident, Jashoda Malik was heading to her farmland to deliver lunch to her husband when she was fatally struck.
The twin fatalities have cast a shadow of mourning over the region, with locals expressing deep grief over the sudden and unfortunate loss. Authorities are expected to provide compensation to the families as per disaster relief guidelines.
