Chilly Mornings And Thick Fog Expected Throughout The State.

Odisha is currently experiencing a peak winter chill, with several parts of the state recording temperatures well below the seasonal average. According to the latest Odisha Weather Forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, residents should prepare for a week of consistent cold and significant visibility challenges due to dense fog.

Koraput Shivers at 6.3°C

The southern districts and hill stations are feeling the brunt of the winter. Koraput recorded a bone-chilling minimum temperature of 6.3°C, which is a significant 6.4°C below the normal level. In the plains, Nawarangpur emerged as the coldest spot with a minimum temperature of 8.0°C. On the other hand, Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 29.4°C, showing a stark contrast between day and night temperatures in the region.

Temperature Trends in Twin Cities

The Twin Cities are also witnessing a noticeable dip in early morning temperatures. In Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature reached 26.7°C, while the night temperature settled at 11.9°C. Cuttack followed a similar trend with a maximum of 25.0°C and a minimum of 12.4°C. For both cities, no significant weather changes were reported over the last 24 hours, though the air remains crisp and dry.

Serious Fog Warnings Issued

Visibility has become a major concern for commuters. Dense fog, where visibility drops between 50 and 200 meters, was observed in Rourkela, Phulbani, Sonepur, and Jharsuguda. Moderate fog was also reported in Chandbali, Bhawanipatna, and Koraput. Shallow Fog – Bargarh, Paradip Sambalpur and hirakud

The Odisha Weather Forecast for the next five days indicates that fog will continue to impact travel:

  • December 24 (Day 1): Shallow to moderate fog is expected in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
  • December 25 (Day 2): Areas including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Kendrapara will likely see morning fog.
  • December 26-27 (Day 3 & 4): The focus shifts to Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput.
  • December 28 (Day 5): Foggy conditions will persist in Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, and Koraput.

Stable Outlook for the Next 7 Days

Despite the intense morning chill, the IMD has confirmed that there will be no large change in minimum (night) temperatures across the districts of Odisha for the next seven days. This suggests that the current weather pattern—dry air, clear skies, and cold nights—will remain stable through the end of the month.

Drivers and travelers are urged to use caution during the early morning hours, particularly on highways where visibility may drop suddenly. Using fog lights and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles is highly recommended as the state remains under a "shallow to moderate fog" alert.
