Berhampur, Nov 7: Adjudicating a murder case which took place in 2017 in Odisha’s Ganjam district, a local court convicted eight persons and awarded them life imprisonment.
The convicts have been identified as R. Hari Patra, R. Lokanath Patra, M. Danda Patra, K Bima Patra, K Bairi Patra, M Somesh Patra, R Bhaskar Patra and B Nai Patra.
The Additional District and Sessions Court Judge 1 in Berhampur pronounced the sentence after hearing 19 witnesses and examining other evidences in the case.
As per reports, the murder was reported from Ambagarh village under Sadar police limits in the district on September 18, 2017. The convicts had hacked one M Gudu Patra of the village over past enmity.
He sustained critical injuries in the attack and succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Following a complaint by the deceased’s family, police had registered a case in this connection and arrested eight persons.
Notably, the convicts had been lodged in prison since September 2017 as they did not get bail.
