Pankaj Dheer, the veteran actor who became a household name across India for his powerful and definitive portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s epic television series "Mahabharat," has passed away. He died on October 15 at the age of 68. The news of his death was confirmed by his friend and colleague, Amit Behl, as well as by an official statement from the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA). The actor had reportedly been engaged in a prolonged battle with cancer.
According to sources close to the family, Dheer had bravely fought the disease and even undergone a major surgery. However, the cancer relapsed a few months ago, and his health had been declining since. His passing marks the end of an era for a generation of television viewers who grew up watching his unforgettable performance. His cremation was scheduled to take place in Mumbai, a final farewell to an actor who left an indelible mark on Indian popular culture.
