Kolkata, October 5: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s lawyer has served a legal notice on three doctors associated with state-run SSKM Hospital and the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences over the alleged disclosure of her medical records from 2021 without her consent, a source in the state Health Department said on Monday.

The notice comes amid a political controversy over Banerjee’s leg injury during the 2021 Assembly election campaign in Nandigram.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, a political rival of Banerjee, has alleged that the former Chief Minister had faked her injury during the campaign.

A few days ago, Adhikari displayed at a press conference a document he identified as a March 11, 2021, report from the Department of Radio Diagnosis at the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences.

According to Adhikari, the report did not indicate any evidence of a fracture, and he cited it while questioning the circumstances surrounding Banerjee’s injury.

Banerjee’s lawyer has now challenged the alleged disclosure of the medical records, raising concerns over the unauthorised sharing of confidential medical information.

The legal notice reportedly seeks an explanation from the doctors concerned over how the records came to be made public and who authorised their disclosure.
