Paradip, Nov 17: The police have detained two individuals suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals from a slum in the Tarikund area of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district. Authorities reportedly recovered a country-made gun and several sharp-edged weapons from one of the houses in the slum.

According to local reports, around 30 families have been residing in the slum, which is located on government land, for several days. The police conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off about the presence of foreign nationals in the area. However, many of the slum's residents managed to escape just before the raid took place.

A local source revealed, “The families in the slum claim to be natives of Murshidabad in West Bengal, but there are suspicions that many of them may actually be from Bangladesh.”

In response to the situation, the district administration has deployed two platoons of armed police personnel to maintain order and prevent any disturbances.

A police officer confirmed the operation, stating, "We had information that some suspected Bangladeshi nationals were residing in the slum. Several families managed to flee before the raid, and we have seized a firearm and sharp-edged weapons from one of the houses. We are currently verifying the identification documents and other details of the residents."

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to ascertain the identities of the slum dwellers and determine the full extent of the situation.
