Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: A large protest march was held by the Kinnar Mahasangh in Bhubaneswar yesterday, demanding justice for their community member, Anjali (also known as Sona), who was brutally murdered in the city. The march, called the Candle Shobhajatra, was organized to voice their demands for justice, including a compensation of 10 lakh rupees for Anjali's family, a detailed investigation into her death, and the creation of a safe zone for the transgender community.

The protest started from Master Canteen and culminated near the Ram Mandir, drawing attention to the injustice faced by Anjali, who was allegedly murdered in the area near Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA). The Transgender Community is calling for a detailed investigation by the Crime Branch and for the Odisha government to ensure the safety and dignity of the transgender community.

In a strong statement, Meera Parida, the leader of the Kinnar Mahasangh, expressed disappointment over the lack of support from society during such tragic incidents. She questioned the humanity of those who ignored the plight of the transgender community in times of crisis and demanded that the government take immediate action to safeguard their rights and welfare.

The march highlights the ongoing struggle for justice and safety faced by marginalized communities like the trangenders, who are often subject to discrimination and violence.
