Last rites of Padma Shri Rajat Kumar Kar completed with full state honours

Puri, May 9: Mortal remains of Veteran commentator, author and playwright Padma Shri Rajat Kumar Kar consigned to flames at Puri Swargadwar with full state honours. Kar died at the age of 88 on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of chest pain. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had mourned the death of Kar. Born in Cuttack town to Kulamani Kar and Indumani Kar, Rajat graduated from Utkal University and later passed out from Asian Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi. Starting his profession as a teacher, Kar retired as Director of State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) spending his entire career for reform in education. Post retirement, Kar has been devoting his life for literature. His book published in 1953 namely ‘Kabisamrat’ is a study on the literary works of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, a medieval poet. Kar was known worldwide for propagating the Jagannath Culture. His live commentary at the time of the world-famous Car Festival was commendable.
