Colombo, Aug 22: Star of Sri Lanka's maiden Women's Asia Cup victory recently, Harshitha Samarawickrama seems to be in a dream run in her career.

She rose in the ICC rankings following her Asia Cup heroics both in the semi-final and final.

Remind you, with Harshitha's valiant efforts, the island nation beat seven-time Women's Asia Cup champions India in the summit clash this year to clinch a historic Lankan victory on their home turf and won the coveted Asian crown for the first time.

The latest surprise for Harshitha is, she has been roped in by Trinbago Knight Riders for the 2024 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).

But that is not all. She replaces former Australia captain and one of the all-time greats of women's cricket Meg Lanning, who is ruled out with an injury. That definitely is a great boost for Harshitha.

As per career statistics, Harshitha has played 98 international matches for Sri Lanka and has scored more than 2000 runs including a century in ODI cricket.

Her overseas teammates in the Knight Riders at the 2024 WCP will be Indians duo of Shikha Pandey and Jemimah Rodrigues, as well as Australian Jess Jonasson.

The Knight Riders get their tournament underway on the 22 August against the Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
