Bhubaneswar, Sep 4: The Special Crime Unit of Commisionerate Police has busted a land fraud racket and arrested five persons in this connection.
The accused have been identified as Biswajit Behura, Bikash Panda, Prasanna Mishra, Simanchal Mohanty and Sanjaya Kumar Sarangi.
Police said that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman from Ganjam who alleged that her land in Paikarapur area has been sold twice in 2019 by preparing forged documents.
Police said that modus operandi of the gang was quite unique. “Initially they were posting advertisement on the online property sale portal and once the victim contact them on the given mobile number, they used to convince them by producing the forged sale deed and other documents which creates a sense of believe in the minds of the buyer to accept the forged documents to be genuine,” said Additional DCP, Sanjeev Satpathy.
Police further said that the accused were arrested in a similar case registered with the Chandaka police.
“We suspect the gang’s involvement in similar crimes in Bhubaneswar. The accused are mostly land brokers and we have sized forged land documents, official seals of tehsildars and sub-registrar,” added Satpathy.
