Bhubaneswar, May 3: The rise in loot, snatching and theft cases in Bhubaneswar city have raised question over patrolling system of Commissionerate Police.
The unmanaged patrolling system of PCR vans has failed to control petty crime and delay in acting on intelligence inputs have put the Bhubaneswar denizens in worry following a spate of burglaries from apartments and houses.
The CCTV cameras installed in 37 PCR vans of the Commissionerate Police are no more. It had installed CCTV cameras and GPRS device in all the 37 PCR vans six years ago. However, now only two PCR vans have the CCTV camera and that too defunct.
Besides, the lack of capable personnel in the vans is another reason behind patrolling failure in the city.
The Commissionerate Police will soon procure 200 new GPS devices to be installed in PCR vans and police station vehicles to ensure robust patrolling around the capital city, said a senior official of the Commissionerate Police.
