Koraput, Sept 8: Koraput, a picturesque district in Odisha, is undergoing a transformation as it becomes a sought-after location for South Indian film shoots. With each passing day, more filmmakers are choosing Koraput for their projects, bringing employment opportunities for locals and opening up acting prospects for regional artists.

The latest South Indian movie to be shot in Koraput is Ghati, which was released yesterday. The film was shot over 25 days across several scenic locations in the district, including the narrow Ghat roads, Lamtaput, Kolab, and Jeypore town.

The movie’s shoot not only provided work for local crew members but also gave local actors a chance to share the screen with renowned actress Anushka, best known for her role in the Baahubali franchise. The opportunity has been a dream come true for many local artists, who were thrilled to act alongside a star of her stature.

Koraput, often referred to as the "Kashmir of Odisha" due to its natural beauty, has become a favorite among the South Indian film industry, which is increasingly opting for the region as a backdrop for high-budget films. Notably, renowned director S. S. Rajamouli had also chosen Koraput for his past projects, including a film in which Bollywood and Hollywood actress Priyanka Chopra featured. Rajamouli’s team spent 25 days filming in the stunning Deomali area, known for its pristine landscapes.

Now, both Odia and Telugu films are flocking to Koraput for their shoots, a trend that is contributing to the region's growing appeal. The presence of the film industry is also playing a pivotal role in boosting local tourism, which is receiving greater attention in recent years.
