Bhubaneswar, November 21: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Saturday informed the Assembly that 20,150 Anganwadi centres operate without their own buildings in the State.

Responding to a query of Aswini Kumar Patra, Parida, who holds the Women and Child Development portfolio told the house that out of the total 74,224 Anganwadi Centres operating in the State, 54,074 centres have their own buildings.

The Deputy Minister further informed the House that as many as 4,574 Anganwadi centres are operating from schools while 10,469 centres are operating from community centres and 3,890 centres are operating from rented house in the State.

allocations have been made in the current budget for construction of 10,900 Anganwadi centres. Each Anganwadi centres will operate from their own building. If required, Government will purchase land for construction of Anganwadi centres,” Parida informed the House.

Parida further disclosed in the House that as many as 12,444 Anganwadi centres in the State have been upgrade to Saksham Anganwadi Centres. In 2024-2025 financial year, 5,066 Anganwadi cnetres have been upgraded to Saksham Anganwadi Centres.

Anganwadi centres serve as community hubs that offer a range of essential services, including supplementary nutrition, immunisation, health check-ups and early learning and basic health care.

Basic health-care activities include contraceptive counseling and supply, nutrition education and supplementation, as well as pre-school activities.
