Bhubaneswar, Mar 20: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Sangeeta Mohapatra, Junior Engineer (JE), Khurdha for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
Mohapatra was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount Rs 50,000 from a contractor in her office. According to the report, the JE had demanded the amount from the contractor for passing final bills for release of payment in connection with a development work.
Based the complaint filed by the contractor, vigilance conducted a raid and caught Mohapatra while taking the bribe amount.
The entire amount was recovered and seized from her possession.
After the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two places belonging to Mohapatra over the angle of possession of properties disproportionate to her known sources of income.
The Vigilance has registered a case against Mohapatra while further investigation was underway.
