Bhubaneswar, February 15: Renowned Odia singer Geeta Patnaik has passed away at the age of 73 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the CDA area of Cuttack City. She breathed her last at 6:18 PM today.

Patnaik had been rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar early on Thursday, February 12, after feeling unwell while attending a literary meeting. By 3 AM, she was transferred to a private hospital in Cuttack, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Medical tests revealed that she had suffered a brain stroke.

A beloved figure in the Odia music industry, Geeta Patnaik was known for lending her voice to several iconic tracks, including timeless hits like‘Phur Kina Udigala Bani,’‘Danei Das Kahere Bhai’fromJajabar,‘Ei Taarabhara Jahna Raati Jhumi Jhumi’fromAkhi Trutiya,‘Prathame Bandili Baata Managala’fromAkhi Trutiya, and‘Bada Bedaradi Mo Naali Paan Raja’fromNaga Phasa(1977), among many others.

Her passing has sent shockwaves through the music community, leaving fans and colleagues deeply saddened. Some rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news of her death to pay their respects.

Geeta Patnaik’s body will be taken to her residence in Kafla Bazaar tomorrow morning, where it will be available for the public to offer their last respects. Her final rites will be conducted at the historic Satichaura crematorium in Cuttack.

Her contribution to Odia music remains unparalleled, and she will be fondly remembered by all who loved her soulful renditions.
